Connecting your Stripe account

Stripe is how money moves from your customers into your bank. You can't send invoices until it's connected.

Mowzey uses Stripe to process every card payment and to send payouts to your bank. Connecting takes 5 to 10 minutes and you only do it once. Until it's done, your Mowzey account is in a restricted state — you can add customers and schedule jobs, but invoices won't send and instant billing is off.

Why Stripe

Stripe handles two jobs Mowzey doesn't do directly:

  • Processing card payments from your customers — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Paying you out on a daily or weekly cycle to the bank account you connect during onboarding.

You're the merchant of record on every invoice — customers see your business name on their card statement, not Mowzey. Mowzey takes a flat $3 per invoice as a platform fee and Stripe takes its standard processing fee from your balance.

What you'll need before you start

  • Your legal business name (or your legal name if you're a sole proprietor).
  • Your EIN, or your SSN if you operate as a sole proprietor.
  • A business address — where you're registered, not necessarily where you do the work.
  • Your bank account routing number and account number, for payouts.
  • A phone number Stripe can text to verify identity.

Pro tip

If you don't have an LLC or EIN yet, that's fine. Stripe lets sole proprietors onboard with an SSN, and you can convert to a business entity later from your Stripe dashboard.

Walkthrough

1
In Mowzey, open Settings from the left nav, then click Payments.
2
Click Connect with Stripe. You'll be taken to a Stripe-hosted page — the URL changes from app.mowzey.com to connect.stripe.com. That's expected.
3
Walk through Stripe's onboarding form. You'll enter business info, ID info, and bank details. Stripe saves your progress, so you can step away and come back.
4
On the final screen, Stripe redirects you back to Mowzey. The Payments page now shows Stripe connected — ready to accept payments.

Why this step isn't skippable

Until Stripe is connected, Mowzey can't issue an invoice on your behalf. Specifically:

  • The Send invoice button on jobs and customer pages is disabled.
  • Instant billing is off, even if a customer has a card on file.
  • Subscriptions can be created as drafts but won't charge.

You'll see a yellow banner at the top of the app reminding you to finish Stripe onboarding. Once Stripe verifies your information (usually a few minutes; up to one business day for edge cases), the banner clears and everything turns on.

If Stripe asks for more info

Stripe sometimes requests follow-up documents — a photo of your ID, a utility bill, or a voided check. You'll get an email from Stripe. Click the link in the email or open the Payments page in Mowzey and click Continue setup.

When you get paid

By default, Stripe pays out daily on a two-day rolling cycle. A payment that settles on Monday lands in your bank on Wednesday. You can change the cadence to weekly or monthly inside your Stripe dashboard under Settings → Payouts.

Refunds, chargebacks, and Stripe processing fees come out of your connected-account balance. Mowzey's $3 platform fee is always retained, even on refunds.
